We have experienced ribbons in our operation from time to time. We can watch the saw during cutting and have senn this for 2 reasons. 1) to small saw diameter reducing protrusion. The same thing happens when protrusion is marginal and ok at fist but after some time the saw bcomes dull and pushes the fibre upwards wich creates the same scenario. Hope this helps.

Steve, going on the spec's given. i would say if you changed to half inch tips, increase the back clearance to 12 degrees, on a similar machine that i service the saws for the saws are only 20 inch diameter using 28 teeth. the tooth strain on your saws may be excessive causing said breakage. increasing the tooth count to 36 teeth would reduce this and still give sufficient chip size. i hope this is of some help to you. Jeff.
