Another area to look at that Bruce didn't mention is any outfeed rolls or belts that might take control of the cant once it has cleared the chipping heads on the infeed. If you notice movement down the cant at a similar area all the time this could be the problem. This is a fairly common problem with sharp chain systems with outfeed rolls or belts with auto tailers.
