As a Filer, (I am only 18 as a matter of a fact but none the less am on my 2nd year apprenticiship)Hitting the Carbide tips with a brush or piece of sturdy wood, not only makes sure that they tips are not faulty and won't chip or crack, but they also test your ability to wield them to the actual saw. which really makes your job better and heck even makes you look good! As well, I personally use the Carbide tips by Simonds Ind. My father was a Filer for 15 years and then went on as a Sales Consultant for Simonds...Most of you probably know that Simonds makes High priced, but very well made parts...
