Imperial units: feed = 250 fpm; depth =16" - 24"

Assuming a blade speed of 10000 sfpm, the bite is 0.056"

Estimate your gullet area to be 0.9 sq. in.

For 16" at 250 fpm, you gullet loading is 100%, so you are already overfeeding and probably not getting good accuracy.

Here's a few ideas:

1. Increase your gullet depth to 13/16 or 7/8" - this will give you more gullet capacity. Before buying new cams, you can try using wider wheels, although the back of the tooth will look strange.

2. You can increase the wheel speed up to about 13000 sfpm, but you could run into vibration problems (the whole column could vibrate). L&B's are good mills, so you probably won't have a problem.

Good luck Bruce
